If you dread standing in line to get your driver's license, you're going to like the big changes on the way. Monday, Gov. Sonny Perdue announced a few new measures to make those lines move faster. First, there will be a name change. The DMV will now be known as the Department of Driver Services.
Plus, the office will only handle licenses and testing and you will be able to renew your license online.
"Since they opened this new place [on Eisenhower Drive], it's been easier to come in and out, but anything the government can do to make this line faster would be an improvement," said Lauren Soss of Tybee Island.
Also, no more eye exams every four years, and licenses will be valid for five or ten years, depending on which you choose.
DMV officials say these changes go into effect July 1.
