CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

One Savannah-Chatham Metro Police officer has been fired and another suspended for policy violations.

This stemming from a shots fired call near the construction site for the future Juliette Gordon Low Elementary School in July. The two officers responded, and only did a quick search of the area before handing off the call to Campus Police.

It was later discovered that the body of Raymond Williams was found at the construction site. He was shot to death.

The department released this statement to WTOC on Thursday saying that the two officers did not exercise due diligence, including not turning on their body cameras or initially writing a police report documenting the call.

Because of this incident, one officer was terminated and the other was suspended for 30 days without pay.

Both were from the Islands Precinct.
