HHI Fire/Rescue responds to 52 hurricane-related calls since Friday

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

The Town of Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue has responded to 52 calls total related to Hurricane Hermine since 7 a.m. Friday.

The following incidents with no injuries were reported in the 52 calls:

  • 5 trees on powerlines
  • 2 elevator rescues
  • 29 trees blocking roadways
  • 11 trees on homes
  • 3 trees on vehicles
  • 2 trees on utilities

The Red Cross assisted several families living in homes with damage caused by falling trees. Each family received financial assistance for lodging.

The Town has set up additional dates for yard waste burning due to the storm for Wednesday, Sept. 7, Saturday, Sept. 10, and Sunday, Sept. 11, in addition to the regularly scheduled burn dates of Saturday, Sept. 17 and Sunday, Sept. 18.

You must have or obtain a burn permit prior to burning yard waste and register your burn on the day of burning.
