SCMPD releases statement after violent Labor Day weekend in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department released a statement after there were seven shooting incidents on Saturday, Sept. 3 through 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5.

According to SCMPD, they believe that at least six of the shootings are possibly targeted incidents. Resulting in at least one homicide and one victim with critical injuries.

In the release, Metro police stats that several of these shootings involved acquaintances or known-to-known individuals, while others involved risky behavior, youths with weapons or repeat gun violators.

Metro police also states that “significant progress is being made in some of the cases, largely due to citizens willing to take a stance against this type of violence in their neighborhoods.  Despite hurdles such as uncooperative victims, detectives and patrol officers are confident that they will prevail in the investigations.”
