Tropical Storm Hermine has come and gone through our area, but teachers in Savannah-Chatham County missed Friday because the school closed for weather.
But there seemed to be some confusion on how they would make that day up.
The board says they've talked about it with teachers and they will now allow that day to be missed without a loss of pay for teachers in Savannah and Chatham County.
In the past, teachers had to make up days if the school was closed for weather by either taking a personal day or spreading out their hours within that month of the closed school day to make up the time. But the school district was able to make some changes in an effort to clear any confusion.
Listen as the school board president explains.
"We've spoken with state auditors and we've gotten approval to allow that day to be missed without any loss of pay to teachers and so hopefully going forward this will be a lot clearer, and we want to respect teachers time and so we don't want to dock them for that,” said Byrne.
Now, she tells me this will be on a case-by-case instance depending on how many days they have to close the school for weather.
