Driver Flees Accident Scene

Savannah-Chatham police are searching for a hit-and-run driver after an overnight accident. It happened about 3:30am this morning on West 37th Street at the intersection with Interstate 16.

Witnesses say the driver of a pickup truck slammed into a metal barrier and spun around, then hit a parked car in the driveway of a house.

The driver of the pickup first ran from the scene, then returned and tried to drive away. But the truck got stuck and he fled the scene.

The accident also tore down a chain link fence and snapped two street signs.

Police are still trying to figure out which way the truck was coming when it hit the barricades. Witnesses last saw the driver running east toward Harden Street.

No one was injured but as you can imagine, the homeowner is very upset at the thousands of dollars in damages.
