There’s plenty of good news to share this week.
The best news of all is that we got through Tropical Storm Hermine mostly unscathed. There were plenty of stories of damage and power outages, but just as many stories of neighbors helping neighbors and all of our communities coming together as one to get our region whole again. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all workers who worked around the clock over the weekend clearing streets and stringing power lines to return us to normalcy as quickly as possible.
Another tip of the cap this week to the COPE organization. COPE stands for Childhood Obesity Prevention and Education, and thanks to them, more than 100 families from Beach High School are eating healthier this week. COPE hosted a fresh food market at the school which allowed each family to fill two grocery bags with as much food as can fit.
Many of those in line for the food admitted they don't have access to the variety provided by the program.
And finally, some really good news this week for Tina Leggett. She was the lucky winner of a brand new Jeep from Parker’s as a part of their 40th Anniversary Celebration. Leggett, who works at Memorial, said she is keeping this car for herself as she’s given her last two to her kids.
