CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

The chairman of the Chatham County Board of Commissioners says the county is working with Live Oak Public Libraries to ensure its human resource department is in compliance with county guidelines.

This comes after an independent audit of the library system's HR department. Employees called the workplace hostile and intimidating.

Auditors recommended the immediate firing of the HR staff and an overhaul of the department.

The county commission provides nearly $2 million worth of taxpayer funds to the libraries.

"He's working with them to make certain that it's corrected, and that's where we're currently at with it,” said Chatham Co. Commission Chairman Al Scott.

HR Director Jim Stroud and another employee, Scott Pool, are both suspended with pay.

The library board of trustees has called a meeting for Tuesday to discuss the audit. They are also waiting on a separate financial audit.

The Live Oak Public Libraries System is made up of 19 libraries in Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties.
