Bryan County officials host 2nd annual Memorial Walk

BRYAN CO., GA (WTOC) -

Officials in Bryan County hosted the 2nd annual Memorial Walk Sunday.

Each person walked one mile in memory of one of the 343 firefighters who died while performing rescue operations at the World Trade Center.

The walk began at the Bryan County Fallen Firefighter Memorial Site behind the South Bryan County Administration building.

The event raises money for the South Bryan County Fire Volunteer Association.

"It kind of gives you a renewed drive," said Division Chief Jason Blalock, Bryan County Emergency Services. "You just say, 'these guys did it for that reason. They knew what they were going into.' We know what we're going into every day. Like I said, it gives us that renewed drive."

"My daughter wasn't born when September 11th happened," said Emmalie Rhodes, Participant. "I don't want to forget as an adult. And I want to teach her what this is all about."

The walk was free, but participants were encouraged to buy a t-shirt with the 343 fallen firefighters' names on them. That money went to the volunteer fire group.
