SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - As the proverb goes, charity begins at home, but in the case of the United Way Charity, more times than not, charity begins at work as they are now going business to business asking you to "Be The One."
Last week, the United Way of the Coastal Empire kicked off this year's annual campaign and announced its fundraising goal of more than $8.3 million.
The money is used to help fund more than 100 programs at 58 local nonprofit organizations. Those groups help our children succeed, put food on empty tables, help adults lead better, more productive lives and help all of us live a healthier lifestyle.
Even better, every dollar raised goes directly to charity thanks to the Herschel V. Jenkins Trust Fund that covers all administrative and fundraising costs for the United Way.
So how do you raise $8.3 million dollars? One dollar at a time, and that's how you can "Be the One."
You can be the one to give the first dollar or the one to give the dollar that puts United Way over the top. You can be the one who explains to friends and co-workers why the United Way is so important to our community and why they should support it as well.
You can be the one who volunteers at any of the 58 United Way charities. You can be the one is so many ways. So whatever you do, be the one who makes a difference.
