Rincon man arrested for leaving scene of fatal hit-and-run on US 17 near GA/SC line

The South Carolina Highway Patrol has arrested a man from Rincon, GA connected to a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian on U.S. 17 near the Georgia/ South Carolina line on Sept. 10.

Robert G. Collum, III has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol has identified the victim as 26-year-old Ethan Pringle, of Midway. 

Pringle was initially taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah where he later died from his injuries. 

Officials say Collum was arrested and the 2015 Chevy Impala he was driving was recovered Monday morning in Rincon. They say Collum's arrest was made possible when a member of the public contacted SCHP after seeing a description of the vehicle through a local media outlet. The vehicle was located with the assistance of the Georgia State Patrol.  

Collum was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center. He was denied bond on Tuesday, and will have to appear before a Circuit Court judge. A date has not been set at this time. 

The investigation into the collision is still ongoing and anyone with information or who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the SC Highway Patrol at 843.953.6010.
