SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - There's plenty of good news to share and we start this week with a great ending to last week.
WTOC, partnering with 98.7 The River, held a two-day media-thon to benefit the Dwaine and Cynthia Willett Children's Hospital at Memorial Health. We asked for your help and you delivered to the tune of more than $200,000 that will go directly to funding our communities first free-standing Children's Hospital. We thank all who gave.
War hero Gary West is giving back as well. The retired Air Force colonel is on a 2,500-mile mission bicycling from Maine to Florida in honor of fallen soldiers and their families.
His journey brought him through Savannah where we caught up with him. He tells us he's riding in support of the group Folds of Honor. The group provides scholarships to the families of military members killed or disabled in the line of duty.
And some Girls on the Run will be snacking on some great treats thanks to a donation by Food Lion.
The Girls on the Run program provides healthy snacks to girls in grades three to eight. The snacks help fight hunger in homes where extra food might not always be available. Food Lion partnered with America's Second Harvest to make the donation - and to make a difference.
