CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

The Live Oak Public Library System says it is ready to move forward in a positive direction.

Three management-level positions there now open after two scathing audit reports.

Thursday morning, Neal Vickers, the finance director, retired. Tuesday, Jim Stroud, the HR director, was fired. And earlier this year, Christy Divine, the foundation manager and marketing director, retired.

Scott Pool, a payroll processor, was also fired at a special meeting called on Tuesday.

All three were mentioned in those two separate audits on the HR and finance departments. The HR audit characterized Stroud as unprofessional and unethical.

The accounting audit focused on misappropriated funds and poor accounting practices. That special called meeting Tuesday was the first step in moving forward.

Thursday, the library system says the staff it still has left is working hard and as a team. They want people to remember that the main goal is to serve the public, and they say that hasn't stopped in the midst of these audits.

Ultimately, they realize they have to earn back the public's trust.

"Trust is an important issue and has to be rebuilt. That takes time, but we've got plans in place, and we will with all due speed, move straight ahead and move forward,” said Director of Development Karen Franklin.

Christy Divine told the board Tuesday that the audit's claims are unsubstantiated. She said she never heard from the firm doing the audit either.

It says Divine mismanaged more than $100,000 in donations.

I reached out to the District Attorney's office about a criminal case. They tell me the library would have to request for the audit to be reviewed, and then they would determine the next steps.

Right now, they are not looking into anything.

In the meantime, searches are underway for a new finance, HR and marketing director.  The library is also conducting a nationwide search for a full-time director.
