BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

The kitchen staff at Beaufort Memorial Hospital has received several big honors.

The chefs were given a plaque Friday morning for their dedication and service from "Help of Beaufort", an organization started back in the 70's that helps to feed and clothe the community.

Help of Beaufort is partners with Beaufort Memorial Hospital for their mobile meals program, where volunteers deliver meals each day to residents unable to shop for themselves.

The organization started off using restaurants downtown, but a few years later switched to the kitchen at Beaufort Memorial.

In the past 40 years, the organization has served more than 7,000 meals.

"If they couldn't do the meals for us i don't know where we would get them because we do approximately 80 meals per day during lunch and to find somewhere to supply us 80 meals a day is pretty amazing. plus they give us the space in the back of the kitchen," said Steve Curless, Director, Help of Beaufort.

Help of Beaufort also has a thrift store where they provide clothes and financial assistance for the community.
