Burglars Smash Vehicle into Store

Savannah-Chatham police are searching for at least two suspects in connection with an overnight burglary of an east side convenience store.

Shortly after 2am this morning, witnesses reported seeing two men with flashlights breaking into Jim's Quick Stop at Pennsylvania and Mississippi Avenues. When police arrived, they found someone had driven a vehicle into the front door of the business, breaking out the security bars and glass.

The suspects then went inside and broke open the cash register, took what they could, then sped away in the vehicle.

Police found rolls of change on the floor of the business and a screwdriver the crooks may have used to pry open the cash register. They called out the owner of the store to determine exactly what had been taken.

Forensics officers will check for fingerprints later this morning.
