The internet and email have become almost essential in our lives. Now Waterfront Park in Beaufort is helping people stay in touch through the world wide web.
The city is reviewing bids to bring wireless internet service to Waterfront Park, the Intercoastal Waterway and the downtown marina. In fact, two of the bids wouldn't even cost the city or users anything.
Mayor Bill Rauch says this new amenity is more than a convenience. It could boost the economy. "People will stop here and while they're here they'll go out to dinner, buy stuff at the grocery store, and so forth. It's good for the local merchants."
City council is still reviewing the bids. We'll let you know what they decide.
