STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - A trial in the death of a Georgia Southern student ends before it can begin.
Prosecutors and defense attorneys for Grant Spencer reached a plea agreement.
Spencer will serve 20 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter instead of facing trial for murder in the death of Michael Gatto in 2014.
Spencer was a bouncer at an off-campus bar and prosecutors say he attacked Gatto at the bar and caused head injuries that killed him.
Gatto's death led to tougher laws on underage employees at bars and underage patrons.
