SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate spoke at Savannah State University on Monday.
He met with Homeland Security and Emergency Management department students and staff. Fugate spoke about Hurricane Matthew, the destruction it brought and how residents can recover.
"We're in the assessment phase. We've turned on the initial emergency response phase and cleanup phase. Now we're assessing damage to determine what else will be needed for recovery," said Fugate.
Fugate urges homeowners to get with their insurance agencies, determine what they will cover and file a claim.
He says it is possible for FEMA to look at uninsured losses.
