Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are asking for the public's help to locate two men wanted for falsely reporting a crime and fleeing from police, this past summer.

Investigators obtained warrants for 23-year-old Almalik Simmons and 22-year-old Edgar Smith in connection to a falsely reported carjacking and hit-and-run. Police say Simmons initially told them he was carjacked near Gary Avenue, between 10 and 11 p.m., July 28, by unknown, armed suspects. Simmons did not report the incident to police until the next day.

After further investigation, detectives linked the vehicle in the alleged carjacking to a hit-and-run on July 28. Officers saw the vehicle at a park on Largo Drive after closing hours. When they tried to make contact with the suspects in the vehicle, the vehicle fled. A little later, officers responded to a hit-and-run, reportedly involving the same vehicle, at Windsor Road and Largo Drive. It later crashed into a tree at an apartment complex near Abercorn Street and White Bluff Road. The suspects then got away on foot. Investigators believe Smith was an occupant in that vehicle.

Simmons faces charges of false report of a crime and false statements to police. He is about 5'10 tall and weighs around 175 pounds. Smith faces reckless driving, fleeing to elude police and hit-and-run charges. He is about 6'2 tall and weighs around 190 pounds.

Anyone with information on Smith or Simmons' whereabouts is asked to contact the SCMPD tip line at 912.525.3124. Information may also be forwarded to CrimeStoppers at 912.234.2020. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
