SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - People in the Savannah Gardens neighborhood are shaken up after a neighbor shot a suspect who was breaking into his home.
Investigators say that suspect was a 13-year-old boy.
All that's left of the crime scene are some forensic gloves, but people around here say it was a much different story on Tuesday.
Frances Oglesby lives across the street from the scene, and she says police were out here for several hours investigating. According to police, the teen along with another suspect entered the home in broad daylight. The man who lives here was home at the time. He grabbed his gun and opened fire.
One of the suspects was wounded but they both ran out of the house toward Hanson Street. Oglesby says the man who lives here grew up with her son. In fact, he's former military and lives alone.
She said this is not the first time teens have targeted his home and doesn't blame him for taking action and defending himself.
"He was in his right," she said. "You hate to have to stoop to that, but that's what it is."
