SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia will hold work days on their property this weekend in order to clean up damage left behind by Hurricane Matthew.

Girl Scout Camp Low, on Rose Dhu Island, experienced significant damage from the weather. A work crew has already been in to remove the 18 trees they had to fall on the access road alone. There are still many trees down throughout the property, and much work to be done.

The workdays are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22, and Sunday, Oct. 23, beginning at 8 a.m. each day. They are in need of chainsaws and volunteers. Volunteers must be at least 15 years old. They are asked to bring any of the following, if possible:

  • Trucks and heavy duty trailers (to move trees, logs, and large debris)
  • Nine-inch chipper
  • Tractor with a grappler hook
  • Pitchforks
  • Gloves
  • Rakes

"I think the biggest thing we've seen... were the trees that came down and caused damage...blocked the roads. It's just really heartbreaking. And I haven't even seen any deer or raccoons... I think they are still hiding from it," said Diana McDaniel, Girl Scout volunteer.

Some volunteers and troup members helped with the clean up Saturday. The cleanup will continue Sunday at 8 a.m.
