SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Savannah Professional Firefighters Association set up shop in City Market Sunday to sell t-shirts to support the cause.
Members of Local 574 will be in front of Wild Wing Café from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to sell the special pink t-shirts for $20 each.
All of the money raised from the fundraiser will go to benefit the St. Joseph's/Candler Telfair Mammography fund. It was created back in 2005 to provide free breast health services, from diagnosis through treatment, to women who are unable to pay for them. This also includes potentially life-saving screenings, like mammograms.
"You know, breast cancer awareness is something that affects everybody," said Bob Milie, President. "We most recently, a few years back, had a retired member that his wife was diagnosed. And six months later, he was diagnosed with breast cancer. It affects everybody. And it's something we need to bring to the forefront."
For those that cannot make it, the shirts will also be on sale at Fire Headquarters (121 E. Oglethorpe Ave.) and in the Telfair Pavilion inside Candler Hospital.
