Strong winds and heavy rain during yesterday's afternoon storm claimed the life of a Rincon woman and sent her husband to the hospital.
Savannah-Chatham police say the couple had just left a doctor's office on Eisenhower Drive when the storm picked up about 4:30pm yesterday. They were in their Cadillac, sitting in the parking lot and waiting for the storm to pass when a large oak tree was blown over during the storm, crushing the couple's car.
Savannah firefighters were called out and had to use the Jaws of Life to get to the victims. Glynnes Lockhart, 71, was dead by the time medical personnel reached her.
James Lockhart, 73, had minor injuries but was taken to Memorial Health with chest pains. He was kept for observation.
