Volunteers Build Playground

There's a new place to play in town tonight, and it went up fast. In just a matter of hours, the Habersham YMCA in midtown Savannah got a new playground.

Volunteers from the YMCA, Home Depot, the Coast Guard, firefighters and Army Rangers rolled up their sleeves to get the job done. They mulched and hammered, making a fun place for the hundreds of kids who go there.

"Getting volunteers together is tough at times, but this was an easy ask for folks to come out because when children are involved, folks typically respond and want to help," said YMCA director Jim Mercer.

The new playground cost $3,500. The YMCA got the money from a special grant from Home Depot and an nonprofit organization called Kaboom.
