A Savannah man is dead after being shot in his own home early this morning, shaking up the entire neighborhood. It happened around 1am on Rogers Street near West Bay Street.
The family Ervin Law, 42, lived with believes that it was an attempted robbery. They say they can't believe this happened and they are very scared and shaken up.
Neighbors say Law was well known and well liked. "He loved kids, he'll do anything for you," said resident Jameela Lewis.
Even take a bullet. That is what the Lewis family said Law did for them. "I think he was trying to save us, cause the person who did it, I think was trying to rob us."
Lewis says she was watching TV and heard Law knock at the door. "We thought he was coming in for the night, opened the door and gunshots went off."
Lewis, her husband the three children ran out of the house. She said a man followed Law into the house. Law then struggled with the man to get the gun away. Shots rang out, lining the walls with bullet holes.
After it was all over, Law was dead.
Lewis said they don't know the man who pulled the trigger but do know more than one person was involved. "It was set up by a third party," she told us.
A person who Lewis says was not a stranger. "We all know the third party, but we just don't know the shooter."
Police do have a man in custody, Ronell Valentine, and they are looking for another person of interest. We'll have the latest on THE News at 11.
