Commemorating Armistice Day in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Bells ringing 11 times at 11 a.m. on the 11th.

Savannah Veterans for Peace Chapter 170 commemorating Armistice Day with a ceremony in Chippewa Square. This year's event is the 98th commemoration of the armistice that was enacted in 1918, marking the end of World War 1.

"President Wilson asked the churches on this day, on the 11th of November, to ring their bells 11 times at 11 o'clock,” said Savannah Chapter President Frank Bessinger.

Saturday, Savannah Veterans for peace is screening a film at the Sentient Bean. At 7 p.m., you can head to the shop on East Park Avenue to watch "Paying the Price for Peace" for free.
