STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

At Georgia Southern University's Sweetheart Circle, the Military and Veteran Student Center paid homage to all veterans.

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble performed patriotic music and Freedom - the school's live mascot - visited with those in attendance.

"Every day we have veterans walking among the students. Out of thousands, there are a handful. We take this one day and even our decorations are significant here in Sweetheart, with 580 American flags lining the sidewalk. It puts it into perspective how many student veterans we actually have on campus,” said Derek Smith, GSU student veteran.

The Military and Veteran Student Center at GSU serves as a resource for student veterans as they make the transition to civilian and student life.
