SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Thirteen new Savannah-Chatham Metro Police officers will soon be taking to the streets to help keep you safe.
They were all officially welcomed to the force after finishing patrol school, as they had their badges pinned in a ceremony on Friday.
The new officers say they're ready to hit the ground running and are excited about the opportunity the department brings.
"It's kind of a passion, it's more than a career. It's what we want to do with our lives. It means a lot to us to finally be here on this day and get out there on the streets," said new SCMPD Officer Keaton Lane.
Hiring new officers and getting the department fully staffed has been a priority of SCMPD Police Chief Jack Lumpkin since he began heading up the force.
