The United Way of the Coastal Empire announced their grand total of this year's fundraising efforts.
$8,465,604! They not only reached their goal of $8,338,000, they surpassed it.
Campaign Chairwoman Kay Ford says she is so thankful to everyone in the community who made a contribution. She recognizes there were some hurdles, but she's so pleased folks still came together to raise money because the need is so great this year.
"We had Tropical Storm Hermine, then we had Hurricane Matthew, and then we had a presidential election which had everyone focused on a lot of different things,” said Ford.
But they still did it and the fundraising isn't over. The money helps more than 100 programs in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties.
