The strongest cold front in several months will sweep through the entire area this afternoon and evening. Behind it, the coldest temperatures since mid-February will filter into our region.
A Freeze Watch has is in effect for portions of the Coastal Empire and South Carolina Lowcountry, Sunday night through sunrise Monday morning.
Temperatures will quickly cool this evening. Plan on temperatures falling into the 50s by 8 p.m. and upper 40s before midnight in Savannah. Communities further north and west will cool even faster.
Sunday morning will be the chilliest since February!
Low temperatures will range from the lower 30s well inland to mid-40s at the beaches. A northwesterly breeze will knock the wind chill down to the 25° to 35° range between 4 and 8 a.m. You’ll need the 'heavy coat’ Sunday morning.
Monday morning will be even colder. It’s possible that communities west of Interstate 95 will at least get within a few degrees of the freezing mark; 32°. A light freeze is likely in areas greater than 40 miles from the beach.
Damage to sensitive vegetation is likely if precautions are not taken. If you have not yet winterized your home and garden, now would be a good time to do so.
