CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - As we get closer to the deadline for applying for FEMA assistance after Hurricane Matthew, federal officials want to make it clear that you are eligible for disaster assistance if just one person in your household has a social security number or green card.
They want to make sure everyone has a suitable living environment, regardless of their citizenship status.
"FEMA's concern is to make sure those people living in a house damaged by the disaster have a safe, healthy, sanitary environment to live in. That's our primary focus," said Gary Petty, FEMA.
The deadline for FEMA assistance is December 13th for South Carolinians and December 16th for Georgians.
