Inaugural ' Holidays on Broughton' kicks off Friday

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Head downtown to Broughton Street Friday evening for a holiday celebration like none before.

The inaugural "Holidays on Broughton" kicks off Friday evening and continues with actives until December 17.

"The whole purpose is to get people back downtown and showcase the shops on Broughton Street that will be open through the holidays and provide people those much needed holiday gifts," said Karen Guinn, Downtown Business Association, President.

If you've been downtown at all this week you've probably noticed the giant tree up on Broughton and Bull, and the sparkling lights hanging above the entire block. Ben Carter Enterprises is the company behind this, and the Broughton Street Collection.

"If people plan on coming early, get a good spot. We'll do a traditional tree lighting. Santa will be here so you can get your picture,"  Guinn said.

Savannah Mayor Eddie DeLoach will lead the festivities, and Santa will arrive on a horse-drawn carriage. The Savannah Children's Choir will also perform.
