SCMPD deploys 'Jingle Bell Patrols' for holiday season

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - The holiday season often means more people on the streets and in stores, giving criminals more opportunities.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police announced Wednesday that there are extra officers on the streets and at precincts across the county. They're calling it the "Jingle Bell Patrol." The additional officers are offering to work overtime to help make sure you don't become a victim.

"It gets terribly busy during the holiday season, people shopping, traveling and doing things like that. So, each precinct commander and his staff look at where the problems are, where the issues are, and that evolves. It evolves on weekly basis, sometimes on a daily basis," said SCMPD Capt. Ashley Brown.

Some tips to remember when you're out shopping, take all of your valuables with you or hide them out of sight. Make sure to lock your doors of your vehicle and remove any spare keys.

Also, never leave your car running when you run into a store even if you're only going to be in for only a moment.
