2016 Bluffton Christmas Tree Lighting & Parade Friday and Saturday

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

The 2016 Bluffton Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and Parade happening on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3.

The Tree Lighting ceremony will take place on Friday in front of Bluffton Town Hall located at 20 Bridge Street. At 5 p.m., Mayor Lisa Sulka will welcome everyone, announce this year’s parade Grand Marshal, children from the MC Riley Elementary School chorus will sing Christmas carols, and the Town Tree will be lit. Afterwards, cookies and juice will be served in the auditorium where Santa will be. Children will be able to sit on Santa’s lap as well as have their picture taken with him.

Saturday morning, the Christmas Parade will step off at 10 a.m. at the corner of Bridge and Pritchard Streets. Parade floats, bands, walkers, cars and Santa will make their way down the parade route and end at Red Cedar Elementary School. Streets will begin closing at 8:00 a.m. All parade entries should arrive in their staging areas by 8:00 a.m. No tractor trailers are permitted in the parade. Float trailers can be no longer than 13 feet. Be cautious of decoration heights due to low-lying tree limbs along the parade route. Vehicles may be dropped off at Red Cedar Elementary the morning of the parade.

For those attending the parade, parking is available at Oyster Factory Park, the Promenade, and along Bluffton Road in marked spaces.

The Department of Natural Resources is also stressing safety throughout the weekend.  Officers say that they'll be cracking down on the usual charges, such as those not wearing seatbelts, or drinking and driving.
