SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - If you drove past Savannah Tech on White Bluff Road on Friday, you saw a huge truck near in the parking lot. For the next week, they're asking you to help fill it, all to benefit the victims of the fire in Tennessee.
Savannah Tech CDL Department head Tom Amacher has family in Tennessee and decided he wanted to do something to help the wildfire victims. So with the approval from his boss, he'll be driving a truck to Gatlinburg to drop off donations.
Amacher is donating $100 for fuel for the trip.
He says they'll take any items, but they're specifically collecting diapers for children and pet food for any displaced animals, and everyone from our community is encouraged to participate.
"I would sure like to see this trailer get filled up, the fuller this trailer is, the better Savannah's going to look in Tennessee," said Amacher.
While Friday's collection only lasted until noon, they'll be back next week Monday through Thursday from 8 to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until noon.
