Many people went out of town for the Memorial Day holiday, and one Savannah family is in for a disappointing homecoming.

About 4:30am this morning, someone spotted smoke and flames coming from this house across from DeRenne Middle School on Hopkins Street and West 52nd. Savannah firefighters arrived minutes later and went to work putting out flames, which appear to have started near the back porch area.

Fire officials say the people who live in the house are on vacation in Florida. Firefighters still did a search of the house to make sure no one was inside.

They'll call out a fire investigator to determine how that fire started.
