If you travel Highway 278 in Bluffton, South Carolina, we don't have to tell you what a nightmare all that traffic can be. But help is on the way.
Construction crews were supposed to be out surveying the area this week. The widening project will expand the highway to six lanes instead of four from Simmonsville Road to Moss Creek. But today's rainy weather delayed the work.
Drivers are eager to get the project underway. "Anything starting will help the situation," said Bluffton resident Steve Hodge. "We're all looking forward to it, especially those who have to deal with it on a daily basis."
The actual construction is expected to get underway by mid summer and is expected to be completed by October of next year.
And here's another bit of good news for drivers: there won't be any lane closures during the peak hours.
