We've heard rumors of a new arena in Savannah for years, and now some of those rumors are beginning to become a reality. The City of Savannah owns this land near the I-16 overpass off Louisville Road. It has plans to build a new arena here.
The city is now beginning to prequalify planning firms. Qualified candidates will then be eligible to bid on helping the city with major decisions regarding the project.
"How big the building should be, should it be 10,000 seats or 12,000 seats, what kind of economic impact, the total cost, staffing, and revenue the venue will bring in," explained Joe Shearhouse, director of leisure services for Savannah.
Right now, plans are just in the works for a new arena. Later on, the city is looking into building a new stadium and theater.
