Two Charged in Police Pursuit

What started out as an attempted routine traffic stop soon escalated into a chase that left two Savannah-Chatham police cars damaged overnight.

Officers spotted an illegally parked car about 1am this morning, but when they went to confront the driver, he sped off, finally ending up boxed in near Southeast 36th Street and Cedar.

Other officers in the area tried to get into position to block the car. But two police cars collided as they were heading north on Waters Avenue, when the one in front stopped suddenly. Fortunately, neither police officer was injured.

The driver of the car police were chasing and his female passenger were arrested. He is charged with fleeing and eluding police and reckless driving. Police say his passenger tried to punch an officer and she is charged with simple battery.
