It's a new start for the Thunderbolt Police Department. Yesterday, the city named Savannah police officer Irene Pennington its new chief of police. This is the second time in the city's history that a woman has held the position.
Pennington's been an officer since 1973, working in almost every section of the Savannah police over the years. She's looking forward to taking command of the Thunderbolt police.
"I'm very excited," she told us. "I'm very open-minded to the idea of the chief's position, and it's been something that's been a goal for me to obtain."
Pennington will assume command of the police department on June 27.
