Home Front Memorabilia Sent to Iraq

Many in the Coastal Empire have teamed up with WTOC to help boost morale among Third Infantry Division soldiers deployed to Iraq. We've already collected memorabilia from local schools to decorate some of the places where the soldiers eat and work.

And this afternoon, WTOC's general manager Bill Cathcart passed along more shirts, banners and other items. The idea is to send some familiar sights from home for soldiers who are far away.

"It also reminds them people back home in the Savannah-Hinesville area are supportive of them and they haven't forgotten about them, so it truly means a lot and we appreciate what WTOC and the schools have done in donating," said Lt. Col. Tim Thomas, deputy rear detachment commander.

Today's donations came from Savannah-Chatham County schools and the University of Georgia. Memorabilia from Liberty County schools and Georgia Southern already hang in the chow halls in Baghdad.
