It's been a source of trouble for as long as anyone can remember. Whenever there's the least bit of trouble on the Diamond Causeway, traffic is a nightmare. Yesterday, they took the first step in widening the road.
Hundreds of people showed up to ask the Department of Transportation and Georgia Sen. Eric Johnson (R-Savannah) questions and look at proposed plans. The project has been postponed many times, but now residents are eager to see it move forward.
"We've been concerned that if the bridge broke down altogether, how to get them on and off the island and get to hospitals and so forth," said Landings resident Drake Wilson.
In the past, even minor accidents have shut down the two-lane road.
