SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A tradition carried on in Savannah Thursday night. A reception for the Parade's Grand Marshal and his wife.
Starting with ladies first, Linda Counihan honored by the Daughters of Ireland. She was presented with the sash that she will wear during the parade and throughout the Irish season.
The reception, held at the Knights of Columbus, featured dancing, drinks and dinner.
"This is one of the only events that is held for the Grand Marshal's wife, so it's just a tradition that we like to pass along. The sash is actually prior years' sash that we just add a new name every year for them," said Daughters of Ireland President Jessica Smith.
Smith adds they are currently on their second sash and this one is halfway full. The wives of former Grand Marshals were also honored Thursday night.
