Officers, civilians honored with SCMPD awards

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department presented dozens of awards Friday.

Metro held the ceremony to recognize officers, civilian staff and members of the community for their bravery, dedication and outstanding performance.

Chief Jack Lumpkin presented Homicide Detective John Morris with the Medal of Valor. Morris says he doesn't feel he did anything above what his job entails.

"I don't think what I did is anything that any other officer in the department would have done. When you take this job you know that your life is second to everyone else's. It's what I signed up to do, and it's what I will continue to do," said Det. Morris.

Civilian staff and members of the community were also recognized for their outstanding service.
