SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A 21-gun salute and the beautiful voices of the St. Vincent's Chorale filled the air at the Catholic Cemetery Monday afternoon as the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee gathered to honor past grand marshals who are deceased.
There was also a special tribute to the 1967 grand marshal, Thomas James McNamara. He was a Monsignor in Savannah and a pillar of the Catholic community back in the 1950's to 60's.
"Once you're planted out here, in a lot of cases, most people are forgotten about. And what we're doing is trying to bring back the memories of our loved ones that are in this sacred ground out here," said 2012 Grand Marshal Timothy Ansley.
Ansley, along with former Grand Marshal Harry Deal, started this tradition 17 years ago.
