It’s been a week with lots of good news stories and we start by telling you about some high praise for the Effingham Ladies Auxiliary, Unit 209.
They received recognition for their kindness from the very top of their organization as the national president came to their lunch last week to honor them. The Auxiliary gathers and donates thousands of dollars in gifts at Christmas time so veterans who are in the hospital can take care of their holiday shopping list at no cost. The group also helps them wrap the gifts.
It was tournament time this past weekend for some special tennis players. The Special Pops Invitational brought players with intellectual challenges from all across Georgia to The Landings on Skidaway Island for competitive matches. For six years, volunteers from The Landings have provided tennis instruction that many of the program participants don't have access to.
And finally, the hip bone was connected to the head bone this week for some Medical Students on the Mercer campus at Memorial. The students prepared dance routines to learn and teach each other about dermatomes, which is a specific part of the skin that contains nerves. Working in teams of 10 on the videos, the students grasped the material quickly, while also getting a slight break from the demands of medical studies.
