‘Power of the Purse’ fundraiser held for the United Way of the Lowcountry

SOUTH CAROLINA (WTOC) - The power of the purse! A fundraiser was held Thursday night benefiting the United Way of the Lowcountry.

Our very own Dawn Baker was the emcee for the event held at the Dataw Island Clubhouse. There was an auction for designer purses, dinner packages and a whole lot more!

Also presented Thursday night, the Woman of the Year award. It goes to someone who has made a powerful impact on their community through volunteering. This year's recipient, Connie Hipp!

"It's been a really long week and it was a lovely way to end the week. And I know some of the others and I did not feel like a heavyweight against them, so it was even more thrilling to see that," said Hipp.

Four women were up for the award. Hipp's volunteerism spans three decades, directing and managing the Leadership Beaufort Program to educate future leaders in the community.

All proceeds from tonight's event will help fund the Women's Leadership Council's "Breaking Barriers to Education" fund.
