Hundreds partake in March of Dimes’ Shamrock Run 5K in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Green runners hit the streets of downtown Savannah for the 24th annual March of Dimes Shamrock Run!

There was close to 1,000 entrants this year for the kiddie run around Ellis Square and the 5K race! Lots of runners participating in the costume contest as well!

All proceeds from the family fun event benefit the March of Dimes' mission to improve the health of babies.

"I love all of the dogs and the people that are out here. I love looking at the dogs when they come out to watch," said Cassondra Hunter, a Shamrock runner.

"It's one of my favorite events just because it's so festive. If you look around and see everybody dressed up in tutus with headbands on and stuff, it's just a lot of fun," said Mary Dugas, with the March of Dimes.

The winner of this year's race was Savannah's own Eric O'Neill. He crossed the finish line in 17 minutes and 52 seconds.
