Conviction Upheld in Murder of Tourist

A man who was convicted in 2003 of killing a New York tourist will remain in prison. Bernard Green, 28, had appealed his conviction to the Georgia Supreme Court in February of this year.

Green had been found guilty in February of 2003 of shooting Gail Vasilkioti during an armed robbery in Savannah's historic district in August of 1999. She died of her injuries six weeks later.

Green's attorneys appealed the conviction, saying some of the testimony was tainted by news coverage of the trial.

Yesterday, the Georgia Supreme Court unanimously affirmed the murder and robbery convictions.

Green was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
