SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Beach High School girls' basketball team was recognized for their victory in the Class AAA state championship game on a day when Beach was honored by the state assembly for their sesquicentennial - their 150th anniversary - which the school celebrates in 2017.
Two busloads full of administrators and basketball players traveled to Atlanta on Tuesday to be there when State Representative Carl Gilliard hosted the ceremony and shared with everyone at the capitol the pride of the Bulldogs.
Rep. Gilliard said, "Today we celebrate 150 years of education from my alma mater, Alfred Ely Beach High School. And today we are joined with us with several guests from the city of Savannah, and all over the country, they've come. We have the championship basketball team, the ladies who just won the state championship, they are here."
The Savannah-Chatham Public School system celebrated its 150th anniversary last year.
